Alaska - August 2012

We drove up into the mountains above Wasilla to see the Independence Gold Mine.
The old mining camp is located at the top of the mountains, above the tree line.
The site was visually striking, the rubble of old wooden buildings set against craggy granite so high the clouds kept moving through.
The ruins of an elevated railway added to the spectacle, like a crazy wooden rollercoaster.
Soon after we arrived, the clouds settled in so thickly the camp nearly disappeared.
Worth visiting.
